About Me:
I grew up among the mountains and the trees in Creston, British Columbia. Much of my childhood was spent exploring and building forts in the forests around my house. After high school, I moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario to attend university. I had the privilege of becoming part of the tight knit Outdoor Recreation faculty and spent my days learning from truly inspiring teachers. During my final year at university, I attended teacher’s college and was mentored by a number of amazing educators. The people that I was surrounded by and the outdoor trips that I went on during this time have greatly influenced the teacher that I am today.
Upon graduating from my teaching program, I was elected to the Lakehead University Student Union as Vice President Student Issues. This full-time executive position allowed me to foster community engagement, design social justice campaigns, and lobby for student rights.
After 2 years at the student union, I set off on a self-supported 3 month bike trip from Vancouver Island to Mexico. Then, I headed to South Korea for a teaching job! I have been teaching elementary and exploring Asia for the past 4 years. I have been very lucky to work at two wonderful schools in Seoul with dedicated teachers and administrators.
For the last two years, I have worked at one of the most prestigious private immersion schools in South Korea, Younghoon Elementary School. I have greatly benefitted from the administration’s dedication to professional development and focus on nurturing a positive learning environment. In 2015, I started my Master of Education through Framingham University with twenty other passionate educators working in Seoul. This experience has contributed to my professional and personal development in ways that I am still discovering.
I married a Kiwi last year, and I am about to set off on a new adventure in New Zealand! I will be seeking a full-time teaching position in the Auckland area.
